1988 Jeep Cherokee Battery Charging Problem

First of all I appreciate any help anyone can provide. A thanks in advance by the way.

I know the battery is good, so the first thing I went to since it wasn't charging is the alternator.

I changed it out, making sure all the wires were in the correct place, but the battery still isn't holding a charge.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Some other information... the alternator has been tested.

The power has been tested on the wired and are as follows...

The big wire that bolts on has power

The yellow wire has power

the tanish brown wire has no power

You say that the battery "is not holding a charge"...

Here's what I would do to troubleshoot initially:

Get your hands on a voltmeter and check the battery with the engine running. You should see around 14 volts at the battery terminals with the engine running. With everything shut off you should still see over 12.6 at the battery.

Turn some headlights and the heater blower etc on to load the system, you should still see 14 volts or so at the battery. If not, then the charging system is not up to par.

If the charging system is doing it's thing then your battery is not holding a charge or something in the electrical system is constantly loading or draining the charge - that's another matter.
