1989 S-15 2.8L Manual Trans. P/U

I am stuck trying to find why my truck will start some times then other times the starter just spins and does not engage. This has been going on for a couple of years. I did replace the starter the old starter tested fine but I replaced it anyway. Yes it is properly shimmed, I can roll start with no problem but this is annoying. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have you checked for missing teeth on the flywheel?

Missing Teeth

I have checked both flywheel and the starter. Minor wear on the flywheel but no missing teeth no chips. I have 117,000 original miles (23 years young) thank you for the reply
