350 SS existed only as a decal. The sport model actually had an option to come with 350 SS decals, but it's a sport model, and not really an SS. The sport model was also a back door to get the 454 without the SS package.. The Sport also wouldn't have come with a GTO style hood scoop. Sport and SS trucks did not have special hoods.. Sport was a paint and trim package... As for a title. someone who originally titled it could have squeezed in SS, and that could have been a dealer..

There was no such thing as a 350 SS built by Chev. There are a bunch of differences between a 454 SS and a sport. (frame, suspension, brakes, interiors, moldings, 14 bolt real end, etc.) The tires, sway bars and appearance packages were almost the same. A sport could come in pretty much any engine and option combo you wanted- 4.3,5.0,5.7- auto - 5 speed whatever. The 454SS was always the same by model year except for the colors in 91-93. (with the exception of minor differences like mirrors / floor mats / etc. but you'll never see a 454SS without power windows / Air, etc.) the 350 SS is not 'super rare' its a stickered chev sport. Chev sport trucks are pretty cool on their own - I just shake my head at all these people that state this BS as fact. there were no factory cowl hoods. Some dealers peeled off the 'sport' stickers and put '350 SS' on the side of the box... that's it. |

The '350SS' nameplates on your doors are fake. They look nice but they have been changed out. They can be changed out to anything. That truck had little bowties with '1500' on the doors originally. The BYP RPO has zero do do with the mythical '350 SS'. All Chev sport trucks had the RPO. Not trying to be a dick or anything but if you want to make it original the markings are wrong. The 'special side moldings' in the description just refers to the red stripes in them that were only on Sports and nothing else. 454SS's had plain black. Also your center caps are not correct either. those are ones from a normal silverado / yours should be chrome with black centers and little red bowties. |

Yes centers are incorrect , i liked the chrome ones better . I bought the truck from the original owner . Must be a dealer thing , but i am not breaking the moldings to see . The side moulding look attached from factory as i have never seen them pulled and put back on that they looked correct .

350 Ss
I have a 1990 350 SS it is titled as a Sport. Let me explain by saying that it has everything that the 454 SS has they're is nothing about it different except the engine size is 350 Not 454. It has the SS suspension just like the 454 SS as listed on the original window tag the rear end is different than the factory CK1500 in both the 350 and 454 SS are equiped with 3.73 gears wereas the factory 350 has 3.42 gears and even 3.23. Nothing about either engine in the 350 SS or the 454 SS is Super Sport they are both the same as any 454 or 350 engine produced by GM same as in the 350 CK1500 and the 454 in the CK2500 and. CK3500 So basically both the 454 and 350 SS is what it is all stickers to sell a truck only upgrade is the suspension and the red and black trim and the chrome wheels which also came on the GMC Sierra so they're not anything special. Basically in both trucks no matter how much ppl argue bout the topic whether ppl think it's real or not all GM done was added fog lamps on the air dam added trim and put a different suspension and rear end on the truck slapped 350SS, 454SS, Sport on the side and up the sticker price so ppl think they are getting something better. The Real SS is when you take the 350 or 454 SS build it and slap a wipple supercharger on top which is what should have happen from the factory if they wanted to put a sticker like that on it look at Ford Lightning it came with a supercharger. There is a 350SS I own one it looks identical to the 454SS only difference is engine size.

350ss?
Bought this one a little more than a year ago. Ran the vin and it came up as 1 of 2. 1990 scottsdale 454ss with full trim package and factory 350tbi. It's a U.S. truck so I had to add a block heater cause right now it's -30c outside, -40c = -40f . 4/6 drop and new rims, tires, fenders, grille, all lights front and back, battery, alt., wires,plugs,o2 sensor, map, injectors, front and rear shocks, new brakes and calipers/drums and shoes, master cylinder, interior painted black, window tinted, new smooth bumper and valence yet to be installed...see temp..lol, could use a new torque converter, 290,000klm. Never winter driven till I bought it but it was never covered either. Came with factory solid box cover which I sold.

.. Friend of mine who does body work in his home garage had a 1990 454SS pickup and 1989 TPI350 Firebird GTA. He claimed the truck was faster, prolly because it was torquey and fried the tires easily, but he had never actually ran them against each other. We told him the Firebird would get at least a bus length in every gear vs the truck. Even much more in 3rd and 4th. He refused to believe us...
.. Also, a mildly built up 350 will have more torque than a stock 1990 454 once you get above 5000 RPMs... |

What about the Chevy 400 SS trucks that they sold in Mexico.

.. Yeah, Mexico has some different packages... Mexican '84 Monte CarloSS offered with 350" engine and manual 4-speed tranny... in USA, it was 305" max and only auto trans...
.. Mexican 1995 400SS pickup made in Indiana and came with 6.0L/362" engine and 5-speed manual Tremec... Last edited by BuzzLOL; 12-26-2012 at 10:08 PM. |
