1992 chevy 1500 350 tbi

i have a 92 chevy 1500 350 tbi was originally a 305 tbi.the motor i just installed has some aftermarket components(.458"/.461 lift cam,edlebrock performer intake).i just recently had the truck running an driving with a carb but it was unreliable and gave me problems so i decided to install the tbi.everything is hooked up except the oil psi sender which was never hooked on the 305 and never gave me an issuse being disconnected.i am trying to set the timing and at 0 degrees it wants to backfire through the intake a little so i bumped it up to about 6 degrees the problem is when i reconnect the set wire the idle is really high about 1500 or so,it will run but only for a few seconds then shut off.it makes a high pitch sound as well like that of a vacuum leak but i cant find one.should i have a chip to run this cam or is the stock ecm able to do it.any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is the cams LSA? If it`s too low there`s not enough vacuum and the computer thinks the engine is running dead rich. TBI`s computer is somewhat finicky, it doesn`t have a wide learning curve. If the TBI came off a 305 it will need 350 injectors and a 350 knock sensor to run correctly. Injectors are not by no means cheap. Your cheapest route would be go back to a carb and a older HEI distributor, tune it correctly and go.

i found the problem it was a vacuum leak at the carb intake to tbi adapter.i had a 350 tbi unit sitting around that i used.i was wondering about the knock sensor i dont have one on my truck,i dont even see the wire in my harness for a knock sensor and the 305 didnt have one either.it has never caused a problem,truck seems to ne running good now.thanks for the info
