block is ok but the heads are really bad for making HP. "Swirl port head" is what they call them. 215hp stock

much better to get a 350 from a 96 to 2000 truck, as these engine came with factory roller cams and vortec heads. 275hp stock.

If it runs good, its a good engine to mod. Should be a good strong engine. May get lucky and it has the stands in the valley for a roller setup. I really don't know anything about the heads of those years. Congrats and good luck.

I agree about the stock heads, if you want that sb chevy to make some real power though I would put some ford 351 cleveland heads on it.

You don't have to spend a lot to get performance! depending on what mods you want to do on a tbi truck! Look around you tube there is a lot of cheap power to be had also the truck site and if you want in on tuning you go here www.thirdgen.org
