Sorry to be brutally blunt, but the fact that you are even asking this question would indicate that you don't really understand what's involved here. I'm guessing you're asking because you already have a Cutlass with a bad motor and a 305 lying around.
The two engines are not even close. The Cutlass is FWD. The 3.1 uses the "GM metric" bellhousing bolt pattern. The 305 is significantly longer, is configured for RWD, and uses the traditional small block Chevy bolt pattern. EVERYTHING else is different, including mounts, accessory brackets, computer interface, etc.
There ARE a couple of options for a V8 swap. Neither is easy or cheap. First is the Northstar powertrain out of a Cadillac. Second is the FWD 5.3 liter LS3 motor used in some Impalas and Monte Carlos. Either swap requires significant fabrication and electronics rewiring.
A couple of easier swaps are the DOHC 3.4L V6 or the supercharged 3800SC motor.
