I have a 92 gmc 4 wheel drive trans shot will a trans out of a 86 truck 4 wheel drive work in it

Need more details...not going to get into it here, but please read about how to post a question before you post one... What kind of tranny was in the first truck, was it stock if you dont know, what kind in the 2nd truck. I.E. Th-350 TH-400 etc. There are short tail and long tail versions. If they are both coming from a gm truck and the are both stock, then the bolt pattern on the bellhousing will match up, but as for the transmissiopn mount and the driveshaft fitting, ned more details.

Since we don't know what you have on either side of the equation, the only sensible answer we can give is, "You can make anything work if you have enough time and money."

are they same transmission's even know different years

Not the same transmissions. The 86 is a non-auxilliary 700 and the 92 is an auxilliary transmission.

The wire looms in the transmission are different. They have different switches on the valve body. The valve body is different (86 has a converter clutch valve and the 92 doesn't).

Short answer is FORGET the idea.
