1994 Chevy Suburban K1500 4L60e Transmission Problem

I have a 1994 Chevy Suburban K1500 4WD 4L60e Transmission. The problem that I have is, No 2nd gear, 4th gear(overdrive) and reverse gear. Plus I forgot to mention that I got stuck in water that was about 2-3feet deep, and I change the filter and fluid because it was pink. It drove well for about 3 weeks untill I hit a bump in the road and after that I noticed the rpm was getting higher (2000-2500rpm) I slowed and heard a clinking sound in the back, it sounded like a U-joint went out?.... I checked the fluid it was good no burnt smell, the engine coolent was good. I droped the pan and on the bottom of the pan there was a silverish sludge?.. also I can turn the driveshaft a little. So the question is, Do i need a new Transmission or can it be fixed thru the pan . Thanks..

hi,

Welcome to Hotrodders.com

A part inside your transmission known as the drive shell has broken. When this breaks there is no 2nd , 4th or reverse gears as you mention.

This is a very common failure in this series of trans. It requires trans removal and disassembly .

Depending on the mileage on the trans, a proper rebuild may be wise at this time

Thanks for the information on my transmission problem, I don't know about transmissions but i do know about engines, I guess its about time I try it out ... I know I'm going to have fun dropping the transmission, taking it apart, finding out how to take it apart, and putting it all back together. I think im just going to take to a shop. Also what was the silverish sludge that was on the bottom of the pan? was that evidence of the drive shell. Thanks for the info.
