1995 4.3 vortec parts compatabilty

what all fits on the 4.3 vortec for gm small block parts? are the alternator brackets the same?

I've removed my A/C , and fuel injection . I have an edelbrock performer intake and carb waiting to go on.

This is my first engine to build on so i appologize if this is an amature question

The front dress parts will swap between the 90 degree V6 and the V8, for the most part.

I take it you're going from a 6 to an 8.

Depending on whether or not you use the serpentine belt set-up, the water pump and fan blade and thermostatically controlled fan clutch will be different because of the direction of rotation than the old V-belt set-up.

Alternators will generate current spun either way, but the cooling fins are different, depending on rotation.

There are other details that don't come to mind, I or others will post as needed.

i've actually installed the 4.3 in my Jeep . if i must, i will leave the a/c on there for a little while so i can run the motor. i would like to remove the a/c but i know i will need a new belt and pulley setup.

You may be right and the AC might need to be kept. If there were non AC engines, they may have a different idler and/or tensioner pulley(s).

For S&G, check to see if there's a belt listed for the V6 w/o AC. If so, you may be able to route the new, shorter belt onto the existing pulleys minus the AC.

i found a pulley that replaces the a/c for about 30 bux U.S. i might buy one of those. it would be nice to remove entirely. its not an emergency at this time. its just convenient right now while i have the rad and fan out. i figure i should just get it running with the new intake and carb and go from there afterwards.

1990 YJ wrangler, stripped to frame and repainted, restored everything from the ground up. removed the tired 2.5L 4 cyl that had 303 000 miles. over 400 000 kms for us canadians. still waiting to go in is the 4.5" rubicon lift kit, tera-flex shackles, black coated checker plate panels for the corners and rocker guards. i built a complete dash from scratch with stamped tin that looks like checker (or diamond) plate. all new gauges, switches etc.

i put the 4.3 vortec from a 95 jimmy (the first year of the new body style) that i drove for a couple winters. removed my freshly rebuilt 4L60e trans and is at the trans shop getting the output shaft swapped to adapt to my jeep transfer case. to save myself the wiring issues since this is my first major project....i removed the EFI and am in the process of installing an edelbrock performer series intake and an edelbock performer series 500cfm carb. I havent bothered with the distributer and wiring yet, all that was new shortly before i removed it from the truck. once i have it running, i will start shopping for that stuff.

the body never had a spot of rust when we got it painted, but the mrs rolled it over , so we thought it was time for a project for me !!!!!

Sounds like it will be a ball! Might need to put a "special" chip in the rev limiter for the missus. lol

Keep us posted...

Edit- I hope she wasn't hurt!

naw...she walked away! we were actually driving it 24hrs later... the damage was minimal. i beat a few areas with my hammer so the passenger door would open, replaced the top, and pulled the fender back out from the wheel... nothing else. we drove it for another 8 months until i stripped every peice off it.

That's good.

About how long 'fore it's on the road? Will it be a daily driver, W/E use or off-road only?

What are you doing for headers and an exhaust system?

it will be a daily driver. we are contemplating on selling the lift kit actually. the shackles and body lift will get it plenty high for the mrs since she is only 5ft 3" .

as for exhaust....i still have the Ypipe on the motor, i just cut the exhaust after it so we could weld the pipe to it. ....or if i happen to sell the lift kit, i can afford to buy headers for it specifically for my application.

the costly part so far is adapting the transfercase to my transmission. its almost a grand just for the parts. its been a relatively cost effective build for what we've come out with. i cant figure out how to load pics on here or i'd show you what ive got.

i'm hoping to be driving it within the next 8 weeks

Just an FYI the '95 and older 4.3 "Vortec" engines are not true Vortecs in that they do not have Vortec heads. GM called the Vin W CFI 4.3's Vortecs then hung the name on the '96-up 4.3's and SBC with new "Vortec" heads. Also the '95 is a bit of an orphan in some respects when replacing one in it's orignal vehicle due to the electronics, fuel system, etc. but for what you're doing I think you can treat it like any other Pre-'96 4.3.

You may already be familiar with this site but some good info.

Takes an Edelbrock intake if you want a carb, otherwise pretty much straightforward.

There is a Mercruiser marine 4 Bbl. intake for the Vortec heads also.
