1995 f150 5.0 and overdrive
This is my first post so bare with me :D At my local pick and pull is the 95 f150. can I make this motor and trans work in my 53 f100? I know it is all ecu controlled. Just confused about what all I need to do this. I havn't got the vin numbers yet to verify which trans it has e4od or 4r70w. Does it make a difference? Never done this indepth of a swap before but I'm up for a challenge :thumbup: I have read about 88-93 mustang swaps but cant seem to find anything on later pickup stuff. My plan was to get the harness ecu maf sensor airbox engine and trans. I assume the rest of the sensors are on the engine and trans but I don't know :confused: Thanks in advance for any and all advice or info.

You can just about consider it a 1989-93 Mustang 5.0 as far as swap info. Odds are very good that it will be the 4R70W. For mechanically mounting it you can consider the combination a 302 and an AOD if it helps determine what mounts and such you need to go with.
The EFI is very much like the Mustang but with a much different and taller intake combination. Most of the stuff you would need is in fact localized to the engine. The ECM will be in the firewall below the driver's hood hinge. Should you miss anything, any number of 1992-1995 trucks, vans, and Broncos will have useful parts. Including the 5.8 ones.
Not a swap I've done. I did get annoyed at the 5.0 in my 1995 F150 and swap in a 5.8. I like it MUCH better. Might be more info at a Ford truck specific forum to help. I frequent one that even has an "engine swap" section.

In 95 they did not use the 4r70w, it would be an AODE or the E40D as well. Fastest way to tell is :if the truck has an overdrive on/off switch on the dash, it will have the E40D. Otherwise it has an AODE.
A 4R70W looks like an AOD case , and is, but has been reconfigured to be fully electronic. It too will have an OD on/off button (on the shifter, not the dash) but was not used until 97 .
The E40D is a much larger transmission also.
Your swap sounds real good.Be sure to get the complete donor vehicle if possible. If not ...get engine,trans, wiring and ECM. Also grab a side fuel tank and mount it if possible. You may also consider using the Evaporative system to keep the fumes from gasoline in check. Real nice if you garage keep your ride.
I dont think a rear tank will mount between the frame rails on that one. Do some measuring.
The 5.0 or the 5.8 is a good swap.Both can be built up to make more power if desired . Plus the driveability and depndability factor is very good.
As Gypsy mentioned the intakes are setup a tad different than the pony cars or the town cars as they are taller on the pickup as hood clearance is not as big of an issue on a truck.

My 1995 5.0 "truck" has a 4R70W. As did Mark VIII cars and Thunderbirds in 1994 to 1995. The rest of the Fords which used a version of these transmissions in 1994-95 got the plain AODE. After 1996 they were all 4R70W and the AODE was no longer used.
In 1994-95 half ton pickups only the 5.0's got 4R70W's. And it was an option. A 5.0 could have an E4OD. It the engine was a 4.9 or a 5.8 there was no option. E4OD or nothing. Though the E4OD is tougher it's also a lot bigger and heavier. I much prefer the 4R70W. Either transmission is not readily swappable from 2wd to 4wd or the other way. You can if you just have to but you won't be happy with the cost. Much better to get the version you need to start with.

find a mustang if you are going to hot rod it, as they have forged pistons stock.. if just a swap. look into the grand mark/crown vic, like said above the truck intake is taller and hangs over the pass side valvecover the grandmark/vic intake is almost a copy of the mustang..
the engine to get is the explorer 5.0 as those have the gt-40 ports in the cast iron heads and are the best factory 5.0 heads
