I was reading threads on dieselplace (and others) before I even posted here. It's too bad you have to register there to use the search function. I did quite a bit of research since having this thrown in my lap yesterday. Was hoping for a few quick replies from people familiar with them. Never hurts to try.
Everything I've heard and read says this truck isn't going to be worth the effort. |

you could bolt a SB/BB with a carb in and change the fuel system. the 6.5's in '95 had quite a few problems.
those trucks are also perfect candidates for Cummins conversions. The dodge bell, few other parts and your there. depends on what your boss wants. it could be worth it, but expect to spend upwards of $2k on repairs |

I think you are in for probems with this truck. Getting something that has problems is setting yourself up for continuous problems. I'd try to move up to a Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. A 12 valve of about the same vintage would be hard to beat. Go with a 5 sp manual trans. It's much easier and cheaper to repair a clutch or man. trans than the auto. The 12 valve has mechanical injection that is very easy to service and to adjust for more power if you need it. Plus they start in the winter.
I've got 270k on my 24 valve with minimum problems. It would pull 15k very easily. My own trailer weighs 12k and I pul it easily and get 13-15 mpg with it. |
