1995 S10 4.3 4L60E Transmission problems
I have a 4L60E in my 1995 S10 4.3 CPI V-6 truck with 62K original miles on it since we bought it new. I am doing some maintance work and upgrades to the transmission because the fluid needed changing. So far i have pulled the valve body and have it completely disassembled and cleaned. Im looking to keep it stock to get the longest life out of it but i want to address some of the problem areas now that i have it apart. Let me know if these are good ideas:
New GM Dipstick Tube and Lower Seal and Dipstick Indicator
Sonnax .490 Boost valve without O-rings
Sonnax TCC Apply Valve in pump part#77805E-K
Unknown brand O-ringed Valve to put in Valve body to convert to On/Off style Lock Up see attached picture to see the valve itself. Transgo has a valve called ISO CONV on/off valve, is this a better valve?
Transgo separtor plate and gaskets (my original plate has some rust on it so need to replace) also, do i need to drill larger holes in the new plate under the filter screens if i use the .490 boost valve?
Sonnax Heavy Duty 2-3 Shift Valve part#77754-41 applies overrun clutches in 1st and 2nd also not just 3rd like OEM. is this a good idea?
Also can i cure these other 2 problems while im here? :
There is a 2-3 upshift clunk during light throttle upshifts, or when I get on the gas in 2nd and let off and it clunks into 3rd.
And there is a 2-1 downshift clunk into first when going uphill under very light throttle and as the truck slows down it will clunk into first gear.
Also, how can i test the EPC Force motor Solenoid to see if it works properly?

I forgot to ask, will the Sonnax Heavy Duty 2-3 Shift Valve part#77754-41 cause a louder clunk between 2-3 upshifts under light throttle since it already clunks and is now also appling the over run clutches in 3rd?
no one has any opinion on this?
Going to a larger boost valve will increase clunk via higher pressure. V6 engine typically had smaller boost valve
The sonnax valve for over run applied in additional gears will increase clunk.
I suspect there is a problem in the drive line area if this clunk is as bad that you indicate.
i would keep the PWM lock up setup for the converter. If your programing has the converter clutch applied at lower speeds via PWM logic, you will not be happy with the on-off setup valve you mention Sonnax or TransGo. The vehicle will feel like it is dogging out as the converter clutch is applied fully, not slipping.
In the 1995 trans , it is simple to block the PWM valve and have the on - off feature. I would use the TransGo valve if you decide to move forward.
The Sonnax lock up valve for the pump is a fine addition, they work well.
Yes my convertor has the PWM set up. however the bore where the valve pulses is starting to show a little wear. I would rather just convert it to a On/Off style by plugging up the bore. i think the valve pictured above should do the trick right? and would elimate any movig parts right? I also forgot to mention that the truck has 3:73 rear gears in it so that would help with the way the of the on/off engagement feel im guessing. plus its a truck so a little harsher feel is not critical. So why is the trango valve better? and how does the Transgo valve work exactly? how does it compare to the other O-ringed valve that i want to use? i do not see any O-rings on it ( see the atttached picture) wouldnt it seal better with O-rings?
and lastly does the new Transgo separtor plate require any drilling in it or does it already come predilled?

Ok i found out that the O-ringed Valve (that is pictured above) to put in Valve body to convert to On/Off style Lock Up is actually made by Teckpak.... now would anyone know if the circuit in the valve body for the lock up valve is the same between early 95 valve bodies and 99 valve bodies?
