1996 Dodge Caravan BCM Wipers

I just put in a used Body Control Module in my 1996 Dodge caravan and now the wipers and everything works OK. The only issue is that now my odometer reads 235,000 miles because thats how many miles the van had that it came out of. Can the dealer reprogram the BCM and change the miles. Is this complicated and expensive ?

Thanks Phil

turning the od back ???

well that sucks... i do believe that the dealership can do this.
BUT.. u better look into the law of trying to do it.. and make sure u have a REALLY valid receipt from the bone yard u got the stuff from with any info stating the mileage of the Donner van. cover your bases... u are on the edge of an e legal move..

OK Thanks , I do have a smog certificate from July , a reciept from the junkyard , the old BCM and a Car Fax , even then it's possible that they still won't do it . I'll call them next week.
Thanks again.

Chances are The odometer is not changeable. It would be a conflict of interest for a car dealership to be able to change it.
It is in part of the BCM that is read only memory. The only way to change the Odo is to replace the chip that the counter is in. Chances are you wont find that anyhow.
There are plenty of places that repair ECMs, BCMs,and PCMs.
I would suggest getting the OE unit repaired.
I repair stuff like that , at times. Many times a cold solder joint or a stressed solder joint is the problem, and an easy fix.Not allways though.
VIN numbers can be altered, to facilitate parts swapping/ replacement, but not Odo.
Last time I recall having a speedometer replaced and trying to get the mileage corrected, it was going to require an act of congress. Some states allow or require a speedo correction statement on the title in such cases as yours.
If you bought a new BCM from the dealer, they could advance the mileage reading (from 0 Miles) and they would require the old mileage to be recorded and the BCM returned to the manufacturer, to record the repair, due to the nature of the repair. Otherwise , everyone would have a low miler...LOL
