1997 blazer..Brake booster gone bad?

A friend said her brake pedal was hard to push down. I went over and replaced the check valve on the brake booster, but it was fine. Pushing on the brake which is a little harder than normal would stop the car, but feel like the brakes weren't grabbing enough to bring it to a stop.

When pushing on the brake you hear a noise like something is loosing air (noise is coming from behind the brake pedal).

I am going in the right direction with replacing the brake booster?

booster

this sounds like a bad booster when you hear air leaking under the dash. the diaphragm has a hole in it. this is what gives the brakes the boost. so the booster needs to be replaced or overhauled , which ever one you can handle. it is much easer to exchange it at you local parts supply. good luck
