1997 Camaro V6 Manifold

Hello, I'm new. I searched the forum but came back with no success. I have a 1997 Camaro with a 3800II Engine with stock exhaust manfiold. I was wondering that if I detach the Y-pipe, will it cause damage to my engine, or cause it to.....i dunno....explode or anything. If Not, is there anything I should do before I detach it?

Thanks

~Dave

Do you mean to detach the Y-pipe and drive it like that? I would not recommend that, I've heard that too low of back pressure (such as none in your case) is a major cause for burnt valves. Also, you'll get picked up by the cops if its too loud. If they take a look and see that your catalytic converter and muffler are detached, you'll be paying BIG fines.

Well, Not drive it all the time. Just detach the Y to listen to it for a while, then put on my new 3" Y pipe, hi-flo Cat and 3" Borla exhaust. would it be harmful to run it without Y pipes at all from the manifold is what I'm asking

Kind of on a tight time schedule so speedy reply will be greatly appreciated
