I did not mention 2 stages , I said 2 sections on the low - reverse piston.

That piston has 2 sections on it. Three O-rings create 2 sections for fluid apply. The reverse section is larger than the low gear section.

Dont worry how old you are... it is the mileage on your body that adds up.

finally got the transmission back in yesterday. While it was out I replaced the leaking rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Everything seems good so far with the trans. Pressures check out OK, much better than with the "problem" trans.
I want to thank all of you that helped with my questions along the way. This is a great site and I'm glad I stumbled upon it.....lots of knowledge shared here.
In the near future, assuming nothing comes up with my rebuilding of this thing, I might put in Transgos 4l60e-hdc-2 kit. Any opinions of that kit? The old 'burb isn't a hotrod, but I'd like to feel comfortable if I hook onto a load to pull, a motorcycle trailer or at the heaviest an open car trailer with my son's drag truck. (93 S-10)
Thanks again Crosley and bunch.
