i have gotten it to run. the guy i had messing with the starter had both wires attached to the starter. once i had him look at my 94 he knew what he did wrong on the 93. after we got it runnin it blew alot of white smoke.. there was whitesmokin comin from the valve covers too i think. after thaty finally settled down the car did briefly over head. after gas was put on it tho i think the coolant was released.

after driving the car for a little over a mile i can not get the car to go over 1mph.. it will not go in any gear, its bumping, sometimes if it sets it will get power back and run but its not at this moment. this car is a 1993 and i also want to know if a diagnostic can be hooked up to it at autozone. it does run intermittently but its now just not moving enough to make an incline. the tranny, torque converter, fuel injectors, etc have been risen as possible culprits but we do not know.

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket (white smoke)

So its out of coolant and now its burning all the oil out of it. Next the engine will seize up. Might take it out now while the torque converter bolts are easier to get to.
Black smoke = unburned fuel
white smoke = spent coolant passing through the engine or exhaust
blue or grey smoke= oil consumption
No smoke = normal combustion
no smoke = engine not running
yours is heading south. Sorry

its not a lot of smoke at all really. coolant isnt leaking and the oil has stayed at the same level really. its just this bizarre acceleration issue and this horrible timing with the turn signals and the break lights which some how corrected themselves..

So then your saying the coolant is full, and the oil level is ok?

if there has been a lot of smoke from the exhaust, you may have a clogged cat. It will kill power and some cars will die or not run above idle

YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME TRYING TO GET IT HOOKED TO OBD2 DIAGNOSITICS....

Sorry for shouting, If it runs do the basics,

Change your plugs, wires,. Post the 8th digit of the Vin and the 10th. If its a U its a 3.0LT pushrod engine, not that bad of a motor. Pour in a can of GM, BG or Techron Fuel system cleaner. Clean the Throttle body with spray and a Tooth brush or rag.

Fire up car. If it is running smooth and not bucking and jerking when it looses power its probably a Transmission (its a FORD not hating just stating)

Common issues on the 3.0 motors 96-99

1. Cam Sensor Failed (bird chirping at idle in center of motor)
2. DPFE (ECL EGR Flow Excessive) Aluminum Factory sensors corode and quit working 10 minutes and back side of engine.
3. Intake and Head gaskets (not really common but occasional)
4. Dirty injectors,
5. Bad Power Steering
6. Bad Steering racks leak mostly on Drivers side.
7. Transmissions
8 Motor mounts.

These are things I see pretty frequently the top 2 are the most common problems I see. I will say that I have gotten several in with well over 200K with zero major problems. Heads, Trans, Engine failure. Good Luck

With LAtech get a real Mechanic to Eye it over whether in a shop or off his clock.

Forgot a few,
Ball joints, Tie Rods, and Stabilizier links are common.

Forgot why its a waste to get the ECL checked.

The basic scanners will tell you a code IE (Po301, 302 or PO 300 Cyl mifs fires or random misfires) if its running rough it may or may not tell you why. There isn't a Code for weak fuel pump, shorted ignition. Failing crank sensor (some models). And if it has a misfire, it will only further the need to check plugs, wires, spark quality.

Best bet check the basics. There isn't a code that tells you to do a tune up directly, nor one that tells you a fuel pump is failing.

Also Idle could still be the IAC valve, they have a very high fail rating usually cause surging idle, extended cold start idle problems, and stalling when warm. If you keep a foot on the throttle all the time it will usually stay running.

POST THE VIN PLEASE we need to get an accurate make and model year. If its a 93 stay away. If its a 3.8 especially. Head gaskets are so bad on those cars its not funny. i grew up in Michigan my family owns Ronda Tire, and we paid our Childrens Childrens Children college funds with Head Gaskets on 3.8s and Transmissions.

Hope that tells you a bit of the history. The Heads bill out at 12.7 Hours basic build. After you've done 2-3 its a 6 - 7 hour job tops. Like I said they paid my way through college.

I can't see the point in putting 100-300 dollars and several hours work into a car that has been
A. sitting for 2 yrs.
B. Is known to have issues.
C. Is worth more in scrap Steel than running
Unless it has under 75K miles. and is really nice shape.

I do this for a living, (I work for a repair and sales dealership (not New car)) so I have a large amount of knowledge in these. If I saw it on craigslist I wouln't even call unless the mileage was low. try to find a Camry or corolla as a cheap project they are simple design easy to work on and very long lasting Usually.

Just thought of something, Since it runs,

GO to Advance Auto parts, borrow there coolant pressure tester, (loan a Tool 175 bucks)

start engine with it hooked up (read instructions) pressurize to 15LBS while running if white smoke ensues, hook to a tow truck and bring to your local crusher steel was at .10 on the 100. White smoke under pressure will indicate heads
