1998 ford vin U vulcan question

ok got a timin chain job to do on a 98 sable/taurus 3.0L vin U Vulcan

these are single cam right?

the specs just say OHV

well that doesnt help much...

no chit its an overhead valve engine duh...

if its DOHC then im not touching it..

also can you leave the water pump on the timing cover or are there timing cover attachin bolts hidden beneath the pump?

looks like another big "fun" job..

just got the 96 caravan 3.0L crank seal job done this morning and wow you gotta literally remove every single bolt and part off the engine block to remove the timing belt set and oil pump to replace that front seal.. omg wow....

hours upon hours of wrenching,

all for a 6 dollar seal...

thanks

The Vulcan and Essex motors were all OHV, which means that they are in-the-block single cams (with exception to the SHO's DOHC Vulcan-based V6). The Duratec motors are the head-cammers.

ok thanks

still i dont think they are named correctly

but hmm.

ended up not doin this job

there was nothing wrong with the chain set in it

he was misinformed about them needing to be replced in these engines

they never need it done.

people mistake them for the 4.0L SOHC engines ( Ford Ranger used both engines ).. SOHC engines is sometimes easier to swap in a good engine than replace a timing chain as they use 2 of them, and usually get ' timing chain rattle ' by 60k miles
