1998 Gen1 350 w/64cc vortec heads

I'm in the process of planning a rebuild on this 350 and I have to replace the bottom end. Does anyone have any suggestions on a rotating kit with GOOD parts not the cheapo stuff. I want it balanced as well. I want to stay on 87 octane so I'm thinking a -10.00cc or greater dished piston. I've heard some bad stories about Keith Black pistons (true or not I dont know) but, I haven't heard anything bad about Speed Pro. I dont want to stroke it out, just looking to go .030 over. Thanks for the help!

Summmitracing is a good place to look for rotating assemblies. Here's a link for SBC

This is pretty much the same thing as recommeded above except with individual parts.

These may not be the exact parts, but some variation of these should work, and it will give you an idea of the price.

Crank: $190
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...chItemId=45939

Rods: $266
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...chItemId=15503

Pistons/rings:$210 these should have an effective -10cc dish with the valve releifs. According to the compression calculator below, a .045 piston to head clearance (quench),a 76cc head a -10cc dish would give you 10.39:1. According to the jegs site, it should be 10.41:1 so it seems like these are real close to -10cc. With 64cc heads, you would be around 9.7:1.
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...hItemId=128063

Bearings:~$100 for main and rod
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10189

Total = ~$800, but this does not include a balancer or flexplate

I appreciate the links.. What about headers? All I can find is shortys.. This engine is going in a 83 C10 and all the search engines relate the vortec heads with a newer application. Would shortys be my only choice? Does it really matter either way?

ya know I feel like a dumb ***** because I can find the links that you generously sent me, but I guess I was getting confused the with the exhaust ports. I have a 305 installed now with stock heads. Here comes the stupidity.. Are the exhaust ports the same between a 98 Vortec head and a 83 305 head? Also Vortec heads have angle plugs so my headers for the 305 wont work. Intake ports are often talked about but exhaust ports are something I rarely hear about when it comes to newer versus older ones.

GM Vortec heads do NOT have angle plugs, they are straight. Somebody will correct me if I am wrong but I do believe the Vortec heads exhaust port LOCATION (not the height of the port itself) is about .250-.375 inches higher compared to old style GM heads. Don't think that will be a problem with shorty headers.

cool rockin daddy, I realized that when I looked out the kitchen window and saw the plugs sticking out of the head.. I've been considering going ahead with the 383. Is there a problem with dependability/longevity with a stroker? I dont want to build something thats gonna wear itself out quickly. It seems to me that stroker rotating kits are easier to find and just as cheap if not cheaper with better parts.
