1999 chevy tahoe 2wd

My son put 1/2 a quart of trans fluid in the engine by mistake,in his 1999 Chevy Tahoe.
The oil in the engine is to the full mark & has not yet been changed & the color is dark brown, not black.
He was on the way to the gas station when he heard a pop then the engine died.
Was this the cause of the trans fluid or something else,& can this be corrected by changing the oil & filter?

Also, his friend followed him back home & told him there was a lot of white smoke coming out of his exhaust pipe.
There is no water in the oil,no leaks anywhere & the engine will run while it's parked in the driveway & the white smoke has stopped.

The cooling system is not clogged or blocked.

Thanks for any help.

Highly unlikely ATf caused any issue. 1/2 quart is a good amount for an engine cleaning, not to much- too fast- you know.
White smoke is coolant, probably an intake leak. Check the coolant , if the white smoke stopped, it is probably low by now.
Pressure testing the cooling system will reveal the leak, just pump it up and look for the coolant and listen for the escaping air (as the coolant is lower than the leak probably).

Didn't those engines suffer from intake manifold leaks from that era?
