1999 SHO transmission problems

I have a 1999 Taurus SHO with a bad transmission, does anyone know if I need to swap out with another SHO or are there other model/years that I can use. The cheapest rebuild I can find is $2400.

If you have a manual transmission, you have no choice as no other transmission will fit. And $2400 sounds cheap to me. Last SHO manual CORE that I sold (7 years ago) went for $1200 with an exploded differential through the case.

Turns out that no Taurus in 1999 had a manual transmission

The OP should have specified what he had so no one waste band width and time giving him the wrong information.

Most likely the OP will need to use a SHO AX4N as the V8 bell housing is probably different than the non-SHO V6 bell.

in the last 20+ years, i have never seen a taurus with a manual trans. im sure they exist, i just havent seen one.
as far as the automatic cases go, the duratec 3.0 DOHC might be the same as the SHO. they both have the starter in the same location and the bolt pattern is the same.

I'm not surprised, they're hard to come by.

The only Taurus' (Taurii?? lol) with manuals were the 4 cylinder first gen models and the 3.0L Yamaha V6 SHOs. All 3.2L v6 SHOs and 3.4L v8 SHOs came with autos, as did every other pedestrian Taurus. I owned a Manual SHO Taurus and it came with a very rubbery Mazda 5spd trans... I think the same ones the Probe and Mx-6 got. I'm pretty sure Brian has a 5spd SHO as well.
