1999 Surburban Vortec 350 need build help

To start I have a 99 Chevy Suburban 211K miles that had a cracked exh. valve seat with minor coolant loss and I decided to replace the heads with new GM Performance stock heads. During which I also figured I would re-seal the engine with all new gaskets, timing cover, etc. When I pulled the oil pan I noticed bearing issues and decided to rebuild. So the engine's out and waiting. I am not looking to run 6500 RPM's and drag race. I don't want to worry about it when I stomp it to pass though. It will be daily driven and pull a moderate bass boat or trailer. Camping and fishing I do alot of. I would like to pull off a red light and make the other guy wonder what I had. I want this engine built right and reliable to take long trips in. This is the reasoning behind not going beyond .040 bore if needed. Fuel ecomony doesn't matter much as long as we don't hit 8mpg highway. I am looking to get another 200K out of this fine SUV and still get a very obvious performance increase.

This is what I have:
Stock L31 Vortec MPI engine never touched
New Stock GMPP Vortec heads
New stock oil pump to be installed
GMPP Timing Set stock style chain and gears
3.73 G80 Posi-Trac rear end
Stock Torque Converter and 4L60-E trans

What I would like to have:
Significant torque increase with some HP
Probably will put headers on now and upgrade exhaust later.
Crank, cam, bearings, and maybe lifters all need replacing
pistons, bore, and rods look good but would consider boring .030 or .040
machine shop will likely install cam bearings

I am looking for suggestions on what cam and crank to go back with. Can I stroke to 383 without a program? How would the computer act with a .470 cam and .040 over bore without stroking? Would I be able to hear a little rough idle to sound good? Would 1-5/8 or 1-1/2 shorty headers hurt my low end torque? If I was to be suggested to go higher lift and require milling guides and such, what computer should I go with.

I am hoping someone has had a sucessful combination such as this. I searched and couldn't find anything similar to what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help in advance.

Brian

Sounds like a great idea but then I would have a 350 sitting around lonely. Plus I'd have to wire it. Thanks though
