2.0 ford questions...

Hi. i just got a Ford Ranger with a 2.0L/5 speed. i'd like to know what hp/tq ratings it had from the factory, if it has a roller or flat tappet cam, and how to gain some power cheap. it runs good, but it just wont get up to speed. you have to hold the pedel to the floor going down a damn hill to hit 70mph. im gonna remove the cat converter because it's probably clogged, but i'd like to know if there's anything else i can do to get it to move?

Thanks.

You didn't say what year, but I had one and the easiest thing to do for more power would be a 2300 swap. Of course, you could swap over to a 302 for just that little bit extra passing power.

re: 2.0 ford questions...

The 2.0 OHC Ranger engine was underpowered from the get-go. Combine that with EGR failure and you have an engine that is famous for burnt pistons and blown head gaskets. If the engine is still in good shape, put in a new EGR valve and related parts and replace the O2 sensor. That's about all you can do for it.

re: 2.0 ford questions...

the engine is an 88. i will be swapping the engine for a 302 or 351 next year. i need the 4 cyl. for now for gas mileage. i dont know how to check the timing belt alignment marks, but ill try and figure it out. this is my first time working on a ford engine, or a 4 banger for that matter. lol.

Thanks.

alright, ill try that when i get the rest of the truck back together. what the heck is an egr valve anyway? lol.
