2 Simplicity mower deck follower arms as panhard?

I have a Simplicity/ Deutz tractor that I'm parting out. bought it to get running, but it's too far gone.. pulling the deck off the other day, and noticed the follower arms have a bolt/ sleeve on 1 side, but are thredded on the other side for a 1/2" rod end.. Thinking I could cut the bolt/ sleeve sides off and weld the threadded ends togther and then weld another sleeve overtop for extra strength. assembled length would be about 2'.. any reason this would not work?
