2 speed power glide bolt on?

i have a 1965 chevelle "in progress" it has the stock 2 speed power glide with 97k actual miles still runs and drives, but needs a lot of tlc, it is 100 percent all there, chrome, lights, on its 2nd set of tires but it is for sure worth the restore,my question is it has a streight 6 not sure of cubes but i am pulling it rebuilding it and putting it on a stand in my garage,i am putting a L t 1 350 with a few modifications,IE cam heads etc...but i would like to know if the original 2sp.pg. will bolt up to and handle the l t 1 can someone help with this question thanks

It will bolt up fine, will need a good rebuild & possibly a few parts changed to be reliable.

The 65 will have a rear pump. You would probably want to find a 67 or newer glide, preferably from behind a V8.

IMHO, powerglides serve two purposes. First, they were relatively inexpensive and simple (GM wanted to make a profit back then) and they were durable. Second, in light weight drag cars that don't need multiple gears, they provided a platform that was relatively inexpensive and simple and durable.

For the street in a relatively heavy car (compared to a 2000 lb. drag car) that experiences different terrains and speeds (opposed to a 1/4 mile full throttle burst), the more gears the better.

I gotta say 454.

Both trannys would bolt up to it although you may want to consider a TH400 if you use the 454.
