2000 dodge 318

Hey guys. I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4 that has a 318 in it that is doing something it shouldnt. When I start the truck its idles fine for 5 mins then it starts spitting and sputtering and sounding like its sucking alot of air. after that it will idle up and then idle normal again. While driving after this happens it will spit and sputter untill i put m foot into the throttle. I dont know whats wrong with it but if anyone has had this problem or has heard or fixed this problem could ya help me out it will be appreciated

Thanks

Ed

O2 Sensors. I had the same issue and replaced mine and all is good. The computer does not take O2 readings until after a few minutes (allows the sensors to heat up) and when you are in full throttle, the computer overrides them too.

I'm thinking tps (throttle position sensor), or iac (idle air control) Try cleaning out the throttle body too. If it's gunked up it can send false reading to the computer.

Just a stab here...and my knowledge of 318's is of the older variety so what I have to say may not apply but, the older 318's had a common problem of a heat passage on the center of each head and the center if the intake manifold plugging up, if it plugs up and with today's electronics it could very well cause the problems that your experiencing. Now, to reiterate, Dodge may have rectified the problem but if they haven't it could very well be as suggested. I'm sure that there are people on this site that would know if Dodge has resolved this issue.
