2000 Silverado Code

I got a P1870- Transmission Slipping code from my 2000 Chev Silverado. Am I in trouble with this thing?

1870 component slippage, most case this is set from no lock up, valve body issue...

sound like probably the torque converter clutch (TCC) or one of the pistons within the valve body of the transmission.

Thanks for the replies. What can a backyard mechanic like myself do to check this out. I have rebuilt a TH350 recently,so I know a few basic how-to's.
What model tranny would be in this truck? Its 2WD behind a 4.3 Liter 6 cylinder.
Also, some time ago the TOW/HAUL button on the gear shifter stopped working. Could it be related?
Thanks,
Pugsy

I've found out its a 4L60-E tranny.
Any tips on diagnosing the exact problem?

mileage on the trans?

1870 code is usually a slipping converter clutch related , not always.

A rebuild on the v-body or a TransGo repair kit for the PWM lock-up circuit of the v-body will fix that.

BUT , IF the converter clutch lining is burned / worn out.... the converter must be replaced too.

You need a properly experienced tranny shop / person to help you.

It has approximately 85,000 miles.I've had nothing but bad luck using "properly experienced" tranny shops and I like to learn more and not be held victim to every shop that tells me it needs a full rebuild for any symptom I describe. Sorry, not all shops are like that but I don't know of an honest/good tranny shop in my area.
