2001 F150 4.6 Replacement possibilities?

Salvage dealers tell me the 2001 F150 4.6 Romeo engine is a one-year only engine. Will any Ford Lincoln Mercury car or other engines replace it without major modifications?

I'll bet the short block from any simmilar year truck 4.6 will work.. you probably have somthing small that Ford did diffrently that year. or the Hollander interchange ( in which car-part.com uses ) is wrong, which in my experience has been wrong before... for instance. a 1998 Ford Ranger 4.0L 4x4 automatic transmission ( 5R55E). car-part/ hollander interchange says it must come from a 1998 Ford Ranger 4.0L 4x4, when in actuality. a 1998 Ford Explorer with the OHV 4.0L has the same transmission, and the SOHC 4.0L version's transmission, will still work with the exception of 1 bolt not lining up...

if you have an engine that is just bad. I would buy the shortblock to any '00- '03 4.6L truck

Agreed. Many times Hollander is off. Sometimes they say that an engine won't interchange when its just a few sensor connectors, but other times they'll say it works just because it physically bolts into place.

The shortblock (and probably the longblock) is interchangeable. I'm looking at replacing the 4.6 in my 98 F150 with a 5.4 from an 03. Its a bolt-in, but there are some connections and computer issues to get over, but the swap is pretty easy.
