Mileage on the trans?

Original unit or recent repair / rebuild?

Sounds like the unit needs to be removed , disassembled for inspection if the vehicle will not move at all in any gear position of the shifter.

Is it full of fluid?

Is the fluid smelly ,like it is burned?

i did a complete rebuild of the trany a year ago and it ran fine until that day. the oil is good . i think it was the sun gear housing that had broke the first time , can't remember it was a while ago.

is this a 4x4? to me it sounds like it might be transfer case related...
if it was the sunshell, it would still go forward.

IF the t-case was the problem... and the 4L60E was still working.. then the out put shaft of the 4L60E would be spinning in D or R shifter position .

When you place the transmission 4L60E into PARK .. there should be a ratcheting noise as the park pawl tries to stop the output shaft of the transmission 4L60E

just a random thought

the truck is 4x4 . i took the trany out to inspect and took apart the insides everything looks fine no metal shavings if you turn the input of the transfer case the output and the front spline for the front wheels turn ok which tells me the transfer case is ok. how can you tell if the torqe converter is bad.

I would have the torque converter checked by a shop. You need the proper shafts to insert into the converter to check the internals of the converter.

If the drive hub was broken on the turbine , you need a input shaft to insert into the converter to check that.

a broken pump will stop the vehicle quickly.

post back if you find a cause or more troubles inside the transmission.

should have check that first, its the most common.
make sure to check torque converter to flywheel space , you'll find a lot install 1/8 thick washers to shim space.
