2002 S-10 tranny problems??

I'm looking to buy a 2002 Chevy S-10--4.3L--manual transmission. It's having tranny problems though. I'm just looking to get it, fix it, & resale it. Just wondering about the tranny though.

So, here's the problems that the owner is describing. He changed the clutch & pressure plate. All ran fine for a little while--6 months or so he says. He only drove it on occasion after the new clutch & PP--maybe couple miles round town couple days a week. While driving one day, the truck stops on him. Looses power transfer to the tranny. THe engine doesn't stop running though. Says he hears a grinding noise in the tranny though. No gears at all--no reverse--or any forward gears.

So, what diagnosis do you guys have? And what should I look for when trying to find the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Stripped the teeth off the input pinion and cluster driven gear inside of the tranny (worst case). Or less worst cases; stripped the teeth out of the clutch disk and or input shaft, or the clutch is way out adjustment, the pressure plate springs have failed, or the throw out bearing is hung up in the released position.

If the input pinion and cluster driven gear are stripped, it means the tranny got into two gears at once and locked the cluster. This will be the replacement of expensive gears with the expectation that there is secondary gear damage from the teeth wreckage going around with the oil. This usually takes the input shaft bearing, sometimes the case. Plus you need to find out why it took two ratios at once, this usually happens because the shift mechanism left a previously selected gear in place while a shift was completed to the next gear. This is instant removal of the input teeth.

The clutch problems would be much less expensive and easier to fix. I'd start there.
