As for what to watch for, make sure you're not overpowering the driveline, and watch EGTs. The allison is pretty bulletproof, the stock dodge and ford autoboxes tend to not live well under performance use.
It does teach ya not to go to sleep at the light though!

You can no doubt feel it.......you can limp the engine (codeP1093), which is fuel related and you can limp the tranny, which I did............high gear is the worst, especially when or if it tries to downshift in full throttle...........I was in 5th at about 90MPH, then BOOM..............shifts into 3rd and stays there.......say shift inhibited on dash.........I knew what it was after I gained control of my bodily functions, as there had been many of the local Dmax guys who had warned me about it............this is how the tranny saves itself.............scarry, but it will let you get home...............shut truck off a short bit........come back out...........all is well when restarted......convertor is the weak link 1st, then clutches.......best of luck.......Brad
