Is there a way to tell what year a 2004r is when it is missing the small tag on the right side by the rear mount? The only numbers I can find on the case are as follows:
Tag on the front pump: 8639082
right side round: 8635692 lester 3
front of shifter: Hydramatic-8634005
other number found on case? 3F9097692

Just want to make sure it a 86 or newer trans so if I get stuck with it I know it a good canidate to build up.

Your pump number puts it an 1983-1986.
That is all I can tell you. Hopefully someone else can get it exact.
