235 to 250 Swap.
I have a '62 Chevy truck- 235 6 threw a rod. Finding it difficult to find another 235 in good working order. I have found remanufactured but most are in the 2.5 K range. I have been seeing lots of 250 rebuilts, how difficult is this swap? I was originally going to go V8* but it just seems too expensive. You can buy these trucks for 2k with whatever you want in 'em. I like mine and I'm not giving up, just don't want to break the bank. Anybody ever done a 235+250 I6 swap???

I say it's time to go to a few towing yard auctions. You can get complete running cars for a couple of hundred dollars around here. Complete car=complete powertrain to swap. Use what you can, sell what you can, and scrap out the rest. You may even find a large CID Olds/Pont/Chev-engine/trans to use. Those early trucks have lots of room under the hood to take advantage of. Butch/junior stocker.

3 n 13/16 stroke?

In the Upstate there are a few 235s around, and as a personal preference I like them more than the 250s. A 250 has a small block bell housing pattern, and otherwise little else fits the early in-lines 216, 235, 261. I haven't built one in a long time since I got into strokers, but I don't think they're nearly that expensive to do. I like the sound and the attitude of the old motors, and the off idle pulling power. I think there are a half dozen of them within a mile of me. If you have a good 250, also easy to find, and don't have a truck bell housing with it, you can use a mid sixties v8 truck bell housing and install it easy enough using your same rear mounts. Not sure about the front, but probably. You'll need a truck starter for it too. I'm a 235 guy but that's just my biased opinion. Good luck with it. Duntov ![]() What year is your truck? |
