265 SBC?
I stumbled across a SBC engine the likes of which I have never seen. Couldn't pass it up for the price. The casting numbers say that it's a '55 265 with original heads. There is no provision for an oil filter. (this is what caught my eye) I am unable to make out the code stamped on the right head boss, too dark allready. Am I sitting on an engine which a restorer might be very interested in?

I would think so, but I have a 57 283 with no side motor mount bosses that I put up for sale and included "make offer" and recieved none. the 265`s with no oil filter provision was the one`s stayed away from. but yes, someone after closest to original they could find maybe interested.

That is the beginning of the legend! They carried over the no-filter from the 235 straight 6. It got added soon after they started making the V-8. I'm sure some restorer would be thrilled to get it. Post it on eBay (put a $1,000,000 reserve if you don't want to sell it). That should give you a very good indication of what it is worth.

Jackpot! I called a buddy who is a corvette junkie, he has a '55 with a crappy 307 in it. He gave me $800 for the block, heads and exhaust manifolds and is paying me to help him build an original 265 for his Vette using that as the starting point.
