274H06 Cam Swap

Hey guys I just swapped a 218 duration .450 lift cam ground on a 106 lsa Now I would assume this would lope pretty good in a 305 but honestly it doesn't seem to lope at all. I don't know if possibly the cam breakin didn't go well and it's going flat or what. But I was expecting something like the car in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76RD3wJmLgc He's running the same cam but prolly in a 350.

The cam you have is not very radical.
The cam in the video sounds more like a 280-280-230-230-480" lift.
The part number does not exist in the Elgin catalog..

It's true its not very radical. But thats partially the reason I wanted it. I wanted something with low end torque and to have that rumpity rump idle. I figured with it ground on a 106 LSA it would rump at idle considering it has a decent amount of overlap.

What other mods have you done to the 305. Is is carbed? I have a 305 with a edelbrock performer cam. It doesnt rumpity rump but it'll git it and git it. You dont want rumpity rump in a 305, unless your a poser. Rumpity rump in a 305 will get the doors blown off ya by anything stock. I got 3:42 gears in a c-10 truck witha 700r4 and the above mentioned cam and you sure wouldnt know its a 305. Try the edlebrock performer or summits brand

Okay I guess I am a bit of a poser than its a relatively stock 305 that has been rebuilt edelbrock eps intake that 274 cam and stock heads and manifolds a single probably 2.25 Cherry Bomb Glasspack. Quadrajet Carb. 4.11 Gears in the rear.

Any cam that has a rumpity idle will need a very high stall and big gears when used in a 305. its very easy to over cam a 305.

But this is how you do it.

degree it in

9" converter 3800-4000 true stall speed 4.56's. 10:1 cr
Now you're cooking with gas!

How does it run? I think you are way overcammed. The thing with 305's is to go small. Do you have true dual exhaust. I would seriously down grade. With the cam i mentioned and your setup you'd see a significant increase in torque. Whats the motor in?

Wow that seems like an awful lot of duration... Bye bye low speed torque. I think I will just drive this thing the way it is and will build up a 350 vortec headed roller block. But honestly I assumed that a 305 with that cam would sound a little nasty at idle.

Right where the motor is happy.

More fun to drive to work and back.
