28-48 Spindles

I am building a ground up rat and have a Speeway front end with 28-48 spindles. As I understand it 48-56 F100 backing plates, hubs and drums fit the spindles. Anyone had any experience with this set up and maybe newer or other backing plates and hubs? Found a set of 65 F100 and they apparently are close? Just looking for options if they are out there.

28 to 36 spindles are not the same as 37 to 48

37 to 41 have a round back
42 to 48 have a square back.

42 to 48 are the preferred ones for a 53 to 56 F-100 brake conversion.
The 57 up F-100 backing plates and hubs do NOT work.....but the brake drums will......

I have the 53 to 56 F-100 setup on 48 spindles on my 32 Ford roadster.

Read this magazine article.....

Spindles

Thanks for the tip and the article is excellent. The spindles I have from Speeway are round back but they list them as 28-48 ? anyway I know what will work, thanks again.

The square back ones ( 42 to 48 ) fit the square backs of the 53 to 56 F-100 backing plates without grinding.....on the original 37 to 41 round backs.....some grinding is required. MAYBE the aftermarket Speedway ones will clear without grinding......even on the original round back Fords ........it is not a lot of grinding.
