2818-1 Holley Question
Guys, I just acquired a 2818-1 Holley carburetor, sbc intake manifold and chrome air cleaner. The person I got it from said it came off a '64 or '65 Corvette with a 327 in it. I have done some looking online, and I've gleaned this much info. It is 600 cfm, with 65 & 75 jets, 6.5 power valve. The carb has the following on the choke horn: LIST- 2818-1: date code 123. I don't have a clue what the date code means. There's a GM part number 3849804 above the LIST #. Can anyone tell me what the date code translates to?

From Holley date codes.
First digit is the last number of the year. Second digit is the month. Third digit is the week of the month. Your date code "123" could be a 1961 or '71 carb, third week of Feb. The only mention I see of that carb number is for use on a 1964-'65 Corvette w/a 327. I'm not much on Corvette info, perhaps there's some other explanation of the carb. For instance, a Holley was used in 1971 on the 330 HP 350 cid engine, lesser engines got the Q-jet. But I'm thinking the 330 HP engine wasn't a 600 CFM. Good luck. |

From what I've read since I first posted, I agree with you. The date code of 123 should stand for the third week of Feb, 1961 or 1971, but the car was "supposed" to be original, and this intake was removed to put on an aluminum intake and bigger carb. I don't know when GM quit putting production numbers on Holleys; '71 doesn't sound right, but in '61, I don't think they were using them. As I remember, maybe regular Carters, AFBs, or Rochesters (?) but my memory isn't all that good back that far. Those 2818-1 carbs were supposedly only on 350-365 hp 327's in Corvettes. Thanks for the info.

2818-1 Holley Question
In late 1963 through mid 1964 Holley used a four digit date code for this carb. The first three digits ranged from 001-366, and represent the day of the year, while the fourth digit represents the year. For example: 1963 would represent the 196th day, which would be July 15th of 1963, while 1964 would represent the 196th day, which would be July 14th of 1964, which was a leap year. Check the date code carefully for a fourth number, as some of the stampings were very light. If you find a fourth number, most likely, it will be a 4, which would would mean that your carb was built on May 2, 1964, which would have ended up on an early '65 350hp or 365hp engine, since the production year began sales in June. Hope that helps.
