i have a old 283 out of an 67 Malibu and it runs fine i just want to put a cam in it but im afraid ill push a rod through my oil pan what do i do???

Don't do anything. You could push a rod through your oil pan.

Like literally push one through? with just your fingers? That'd be a neat trick.

FWIW while I always do my own engine work you can usually find a mechanic to do a cam install if you look hard enough. I would recomend going with the ISKY 268mega cam at MAX though. Something around 252º would be better for an otherwise stock car but that cam is somewhat liveable with a 283 and will work with "z28" springs.

I say put a cam AND nitrous injection on it and then start saving up for some new rods and an oil pan. Just make sure you have a good time doing it.. ;)
