We've gotten so many of this exact same question over the years but it still brings laughs. Think in these terms: More cubic inches make more power, its easier to reach 500 horses with a 350 than a 302 because it's 50 cubic inches bigger. And yes, while a 327 block and a 283 crank makes a 302, there are no "302" rods, as all the generation 1 small blocks used the same 5.7 inch rod except the 400 which used 5.565 rods. You want a 500 horse 302? You'll need about $6000 at a minimum and it won't be street driveable.

Ah well building almost any small block isn't really difficult until you start stuffing 4 inch stroke cranks in'em then it gets a little complicated.
If you want to build a high revver by all means go for it. They sound great really revved up there, no arguements there.

and actually there are 302 rods the camaro ran a 302 in the late 60's large journal and small i have already found that the rods i need are from a 66 camaro 302. now do i bore the block .125 to run 205 160's and domed pistons for higher compression or stick with the largest valves i can run in the smaller cylinder. and just so you know i am not joking i will have this done and rolling by spring
