283 Build Up
Guys, I want to run an Edelbrock C-26 (dual quad manifold), with either a pair of Edelbrock 500's, or a pair of Carter 400's, using progressive linkage. What do you think would be the best set up on my '66 283 sbc, (cam, heads, pistons, etc)? The tranny is a TH350, with a shift kit, and the rear end, is a '56 Chevy banjo, with a 3.55 ratio. I would be doing no more than cruising, ( however a little quickness and a little lope would be OK).Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, NOSLO23

Don't forget Chevy offered a 2x4 set up in '56 & '57 Chevies when they were new. These came on 265s and 283s.
I don't think they came with 3:55 rear gears but several of the guys in the local Classic Chevy club we used to have ran 2x4 set ups on their Classics and I believe most ran about a 3:55 ratio out back? None of them were running a 283 but no reason you shouldn't be able to run this on yours? I've got an original '57 2x4 set up I have on a '68 327 with a cam and heads with 2.02 intake valves. Sounds pretty heathly whenever I fire it up. |

Hey NoSlo23 If you run across some good build kits for the 283 let me know. Im takin one out of a chevelle to replace it with somethin bigger and Im gonna build the 283 for future placement. Could use some good parts. Good luck man.
