283 chevy motor bild up

Is there much hope building up a 283 chevy motor? It came out of a 66 half ton shortbed that I'm building.

What's the plan, street/strip type motor that will run on pump gas or more of a docile stump puller?

Do you mean simple rebuilding or performance enhancing? It's the same as any other SBC, but with a different power range and capabilities. Do a search here, you'll get your fill of ideas, tricks and builds. If you have a specific question, ask away.

Considering the fact you are putting it in a truck you would be better off spending the money to build a 350 the extra cubes and torque will help get the truck off the line. Also now days the 283 parts will cost more than the 350 parts,if you don't have the budget for aftermarket heads the 350's will have hardened valve seats for the unleaded gas 283's did not.
