283 engine code help!!!

Hey guys. I have the following code on my Chevy 283 block. This number is on the front passenger side of the block where the head meets the block. Any help as to estimated year and car model would be greatly appreciated!!!

F0902we.

F= flint mi
0902= September 2nd

What is "we"????
How can I determine a range of years??
Thank you!!
Matt

The "WE" is called the suffix code but you might have already known that.

Unless you are positive you have a 283, you need the date code (help on this and the other codes is here) in order to determine which engine you have, since there are two engines (one 283 and one 307) w/the same suffix.

Good luck.

It's easy to tell a '65 283 from a '68 307.
The '65 block will have an extra hole near the distributor hole (for the draft tube) The '68 block will NOT have that hole. JA
