283 Hilborn Injection
Need An Older Model 1 11/16 Or 2 1/16 Manual Hilborn Unit For A Street Legal Sprint Car Project. Multiple Problems With This One, Not The Least Of Which Is Cam Selection So It's Somewhat Driveable Once Built. 1650 Lbs Full Of Fuel With Driver Is My Estimate. Will Mill 60 Cc Power Pack Heads .010 & Block .020 To Get 10.5:1 Comp Ratio So I Can Run Either Gas Or Methanol. Any Cam Suggestions Or Injector Size Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

Planning on "Keeping it real" so to speak. No one runs anything but mechanical in a real Sprint Car & that's what the project is.Street legal version of the real thing.

Thanks Smoke,...plan On Using Hilborn "0" Pump & If I Run Gas Will Be Like An 8 Or A 6 Nozzle. If On Methanol, 10-14 Depending On What Cam I Run. Wont Have To Be Too Radical With The Power Pack Heads Decked 10 & Block Decked 20. Think I Should Arrive At About 10.5 Or 11:1 So I Can Go Either Way. Think I'll Run Hydraulic Roller. 283 Has A 3 Inch Stoke Rite? With A 5.7 Rod. Do Any Good To Offset The Wristpins? I Just Want It To Be Reliable But Quicker Than Superman.

I would think that a bsfc of around .400 would be close on gas, but alc takes 2.2 times the amount to do the same thing. You will need spare jets naturally Never tried to do it on the street,but prob a secondary would be used to dump extra fuel at part throttle. Yes 3 in stroke. i had a 277 and a 292,but they were t/r gasser engines that would go 11000 rpms. they were hell on springs. A 6 flows .06 gpm and 23.76 pph,an 8 flows .08 gpm and 31.68 pph A 6 is .020 dia,8 is .0225 dia. 10 flows .1 gpm and 39.6 pph and is.025 dia. So 8 #6s would flow.06 X 8=.48 gpm@30psi or 190.08 pph.

'preciate The Info Sir,..best Technical Info I've Gotten To Date. This Is Going Into A Street Legal 1400 Lb Sprint Car(tubular Frame).
Even If I Dont Make More Than 300-400 Horses, It Will Ping Your Head Against The X Brace Behind The Roll Cage For Sure. Thanks Again! |
