Question 283 piston alternitave

I have plans on building a 283 for my car, however fordged pistons for it are pricey. I was wondering is anyone knew of a more common piston that had the same compression hight as the 283, or a rod/piston combo that would fit. According to one of my manuals a 250 six has the same journal size as the small journal 283, but it dosent list the lenth of the rod, or the pin size. also what is the compression hight of the 283 piston? I figured it to be around 1.8" by subtracting the rod lenth and half the stroke from the deck hight, but dont know if that's right.

Also I don't mind boreing it out to 4" if it allows me to use a less expensive piston.

I just listed a set of 30 over 283 Jahns high compression pistons on eBay! LOL Only at 50 bucks so far.

But really, ck on Ebay for the Speed Pro hyperutectic pistons, probably can be had for about $150 or less. Plain pistons for under a hundred.

KB has a couple of 283 pistons, one domed & one flat-top. Their site is down for now, but their old catalog is available at the Beck Racing site. Go here:

and scroll down a bit. Cost should be around $250/set.

Thanks, I hadent even considered ebay. and wasen't aware that hypereutectics were availble. none of my catalogs list them. What I was considering was using a longer rod with maby a 350 piston assuming my block will stand a .125 over bore, haven't had it tested yet and assuming that there was a factory rod that could be made to fit, but maby that will not be required.
