i bought this 283 and it needed head so i bought these 54cc heads. i guess thats what came on it. if i get new pistons and about .30 over can i run pump gas? whats a good piston with this engine and also looking up casting numbers it said my 283 has a factory forged crank?

also it has on passeger side front of block -F0703D. i've looked at all the good sites for codes but nothing.

im wanting a street engine that runs pumped gas but something i cant take to the strip on weekends and not be a whimp.

hopefully the car is light weight.what trans and gears do you have?weight of car? is a solid or roller cam ok? how fast is good enough?

well its going in a 1962 GMC shortbed. its has stock rearend as of now and i've done alot of weight reduction. need to weigh it though. and possibly 13 or high 13's in the quarter mile.

A good 283 can make 375 hp or more,using 2.02 heads(bored 060 to 292 cubes) that would make a 3100 pound chevy 2 go low 13s maybe high 12s if you threw a lot of gear at it. If the engine was blown it might get that truck into the 13s.

N/A 283 with little work might get you into the low 17s high 16s
