I have a 1965 283 that I built for a class in engine machining. Great class. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. I rebuilt the powerpack heads with a 3 angle grind and new guides, Z28 springs and valves. The block is bored 30 over. Both the block and the heads have been decked. The crank has been ground and balanced with the pistons and rods. It has new lifters and pushrods. New oil pump. The heads have been mildly ported and gasket matched. The block was line honed. New ARP connecting rod bolts. New pistons and rings. The cam is similar to a Summit 1103. Double roller timing chain and gears. I have the stock 2 barrel manifold for it or a newer EGR 4 barrel from a 75 Corvette. Stock distributor

First question is how much hp and torque do you think it will make? And second how much is it worth?

I was going to put it into my 40 Plymouth pickup but I think I will stay with the orignial rebuilt 6 I have for it so I need to sell it.

Hard to say what the hp and torque would be, but in 1957, the hot rod 283 motor from the factory made 270 hp with 2-4 bbls and 283 hp with Rochester fuel injection. A wild shot in the dark concerning what it's worth might be in the range of $750. You'll just have to wait for the right buyer to show up.

+1. You can get rid of it for probably as much as any other "desirable" sbc, you just have to sit on it for a while.

probably over 200 horses and the price might surprise you.Ive seen 283 cores go for 100 bucks.Use it,those engines are fun and reliable.Change out the points though

IMHO the 283 and other small cid SBC's (305*327 etc) are great to supercharge with the MP122/Edelbrock blower ir the Weiand/B&M 142 blower.
