3.1's are known to have bad intake gaskets. they are made out of plastic and crack apart leading to leaking coolant and a lean miss.
i would start by checking that out and then pull off the pressure regulator vacuum hose and check to see if you have fuel in the hose. if you have fuel in the vacuum hose you have a bad regulator.
btw i have only seen one go bad on a 3.1 in 4 years of working on cars.

3.1 fuel pressure reg.

Thanks I checked the vavcum on the reg and it seemed okay, but i change the fuel pressure reg anyway. I changed the fuel filter and checked scanned for codes and found nothing. I didn't check the fuel pressure with a gauge but there always seems to be a lot at the bleedoff, I was wondering maybe if it was the relay screwing up sometimes because if you shut it off the problem usually goes away within 5 miinutes. I need someone to tell me where the relay is because i couldn't find it. Don't have a problem tuning my stoker with the two fours but this 3.1 is screwing me up. Would appreciate any further ideas
