Post 3.27 rearend gears

Well after three tries I finally got it right! I have 3.27 gears in the rear end. Would like to know if these are good gears for 1/4 mile or highway driving or both?

Hey Butch why don't you pull the cover on the rear, you will find the gear size stamped on the ring gear might say somthing like 410 or 41-11 and sometimes fords have dual stamps because the pinion gear determines the ratio. we just pulled an 8.8 rear that said 308/340 and the ratio was 340 but with a different pinion would have made it 308.then you will know for sure what is in there. Now if you asked me what gears for street/strip/hiway I'd say 340 or 355 with and OD tranny the hiway would be OK in final drive, the 327s are good for city and hiway but lack a bit for strip

Post re: 3.27 rearend gears

easy way to find the ratio..count the teeth on the ring gear divide that number into the # of teeth. on the pinion(smaller gear the driveshaft turns) Example 41 teeth on the ring Divide by 11 teeth on the pinion = 3.727272 0r 3.73 Numbers on the ring and pinion are not allways the gear ratio. Sometimes ..but not allways. Counting the teeth is the only sure fire way to find out what you have. 3.27 would be more of a highway gear. 3.90 -4.10-5.13 more of a drag strip gear(with out a o/d tranny.)
