I have a 67 camaro RS that's in the shop as I'm typing. It's got a stock 275HP 327, powerglide with a 12 bolt posi rear and 2:73 gears. I'm wanting to upgrade to give the car a little more bottom end, the car is a dog off the line.
I'm trying to decide on which gears to put in 3:55's or the 3:73's?? The car is not a daily driver and I drove it on the highway once when I bought it. Oh...it's got 15" 235 60 tires on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
my brother had a 68 chevelle 327 with a glide 10 bolt posi with a 3.73 gear great running around town but get out on the highway and run 80 i think he said was about 4500rpm's.don't know what tire size he had, engine stock.
If you don't do a lot of Driving above 60 mph [how many kph is that?], the 3.73 is a good choice.
Around here [just outside of washington DC ] I travel alot on the interstate and to avoid getting run over you have to run 70- 75 mph.so in this area a 3.55 would be my choice.
Even cooler still, would be 3.73s with a 700R4, best of both worlds. But we'll save that for another thread.
Did a search on the topic and there definitely are alot of opinions, 3:55 and 3:73 do seem to be popular choices. I think I might go with the 3:55's as I might be doing some engine upgrades down the road. Thanks to everyone for the input !
