94 6 cylinder automatic ford transmission will fit a 83 carbureted motor???

Hi everybody,

We put a 302 carbureted motor on a 94 mustang with a 3.8 originaly motor in it.

Does the transmission and the converter fit for a 1986 5.0 liter mustang motor???

If not, what will have to buy to be able to make this conversion...

Changing the transmission, torque converter, driveshaft????bellhousing...

Your help is really appreciate...

Thanks in advance, Stephane

Well, sort of. Firstly the transmission is an AODE. This means it is computer controlled. You can get around this by buying a trnasmission control box from somebody like Baumann. Not too cheap. Other than that the transmission will bolt right up. You will need a 5.0 AOD or AODE/4R70W flexplate with the 50 ounce imbalance like one of these. The last consideration is the converter. It will work but you can be pretty sure the stall speed will be at least a bit off. This will likely mean the car will tend to upshift sooner than you'd like. It may not be a big deal and may well be minor enough to live with.
Another reasonably priced option would be just to toss the AODE for a slightly older AOD. Identical bolt-in except it's controlled by a cable instead of a computer. For use with an aftermarket carb setup you HAVE to use a cable like this. Lokar is pretty much the only maker of these. Having one and having it correctly adjusted is absolutely critical with an AOD.
And then of course you could consider a 5 speed swap ...
